CMC Social-Democrats ask that dwellers stop paying for servicing houses, but are accused of populism
The Social-Democratic faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) asks to annul the decision according to which the dwellers pay more for servicing the living block and for repairing technical equipment. “We regretfully find, that after 5 months since raising the tariffs, the situation in the area of cleaning and managing the living blocks has seen no visible change,” the leader of the Social-Democratic councilors, Eduard Musuc, said at the CMC sitting today, May 15.
On December 27, the CMC passed a decision increasing the charges for servicing the blocks and evacuating the garbage five-fold.
In response, the councilor of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Party Oleg Cernei has said: “I believe it to be populism when one says the charge increased by five times. There is no problem with the tariff for servicing the block.” In Cernei's opinion the problem consists in the incapacity of the local authorities to hire sufficient personnel and employ the money gathered from raising the tariff.
Cernei has specified that in the case of the associations of owners of privatized apartments, the charge for servicing the block is established by dwellers themselves and is much higher as a rule.
Eduard Musuc added the socially vulnerable layers go on paying the bills without benefiting of any support from the local authorities and asked to allocate the Housing Direction 17.5 million lei in this respect.
Stressing the need to reform the housing sector, Oleg Cernei opposed to institute new compensation. “The municipality is not a cow to be milked and yield compensations,” said the AMN councilor.
