CMC meeting called by mayor general fails

The meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) convoked by order of Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca for June 30 didn’t take place because the quorum was not present. Only 15 Liberal councilors came to the meeting, IPN reports.

The Liberal group’s head Ion Cebanu told the press that after the CMC meeting of June 29 they expected that the councilors will not present themselves. “We wanted to respect the procedure so as to show an example. My question is addressed especially to the Socialists because they shouted during about two months that the Liberals blocked the work of the City Hall: Who blocks the work now, dear gentlemen? I think the answer is evident,” he stated. Ion Cebanu also said that what happened on June 29 was disrespect for the people and a show staged by the Socialists.

The agenda of the June 30 meeting included the appointment of a person as secretary of the CMC on an interim basis, naming of two deputy mayors, solving of the waste problem, etc.

The municipal councilors, except for the Liberal ones, on June 29 came together for a meeting that was convened on the initiative of one third of councilors. In the meeting, these approved a decision on the dismissal of Valeriu Didencu from the post of CMC secretary based on his resignation. There were examined there candidates for acting secretary, but the councilors could not reach a consensus about one of these. At the suggestion of the Socialists, the meeting was postponed until July 4. In the same meeting, the councilors discussed the report on waste collection in Chisinau, but took no decision.
