The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) in March 2016 took a decision to introduce electronic voting. The system was to become operational in July the same year, but this didn’t happen. In a response to IPN, the secretary of the CMC says electronic voting in the Council cannot be implemented as long as the law does not permit this. A proposal to amend the legislation has been under examination in Parliament for over a year.

CMC secretary Adrian Talmaci said that a group of MPs on April 21, 2020 put forward a legislative proposal to amend the law on the local public administration and the law on the status of Chisinau municipality by instituting the procedure for holding the meetings of the Chisinau Municipal Council by electronic means.

E-voting could be applied after the two laws are amended. Also then, the regulations on the constitution and functioning of the Chisinau Municipal Council will be adjusted, noted Adrian Talmaci.
