The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) approved the buying of 20 battery powered trolleybuses produced in 2007-2008, IPN reports.
In the meeting of CMC, Dorin Chernyi, director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company, said the given battery powered trolleybuses are 33% worn-out, but they are of strategic necessity to the municipality as they can run both on electric power and on diesel oil.
“There are situations when they can run in areas without contact networks, besides buses. This is a temporary measure. We estimate that they can be used for 5-7 years without requiring capital investment. Even if they have a particular age, they anyway look well and match the color set of the municipality of Chisinau,” stated Dorin Chernyi.
The draft decision was approved with the amendment that it will be implemented in 2020-2021.
