Moldova switches to summer time or daylight saving time on the night of March 31. Clocks are set one hour forward and 2am will become 3am, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Moldova switches to summer time concurrently with the EU member states, as recommended by the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
The official hour is changed two times a year, on the last Sunday ofMarch and on the last Sunday of October. New Zealand was the first country to introduce the summer time system in 1895. Moldova joined in the initiative in 1979.
Moldova could renounce this practice. The Government announced it will adopt the same position as the EU member states. On March 26 this year, MEPs voted to scrap daylight saving time across the EU in 20121 by a majority of votes.
