The clock on the Triumphal Arch in central Chisinau shows the time, but does not ring. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca found out from the calendar of a bank that the clock used to ring and asked that the municipal services see if the mechanism can be repaired. “As I understand, the mechanism exists, but isn’t working. If it does not exist, but existed, it should be reinstalled,” the mayor said in the February 11 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials. Dorin Chirtoaca also said that the clock should be managed by the Architecture Division, not the cleanup company “Autosalubritate”. The clock on the Triumphal Arch has worked without stopping for almost 170 years. The Triumphal Arch in Chisinau was built by the model of a similar monument existing in Rome and was named the same. The horologe was bought in Austria. It struck every quarter and every hour.
