The clients of Universalbank should not sustain financial losses after the bank’s license was withdrawn. According to economic analyst Alexandru Fala, there is a guarantee fund from which the debts to the clients will be repaid, Info-Prim Neo reports. Alexandru Fala said that Universalbank does not have a great market share. Consequently, the deposits weren’t so large. Furthermore, considerable amounts of money had been withdrawn from the bank over the past year. The situation thus is not so serious. If the guarantee fund is not large enough to pay back the money to the depositors, the bank will sell its property and will clear the debts. “The situation of this bank was long ago known and the withdrawal of license was expected. Warnings started to be issued in 2010,” said Alexandru Fala. Last year, the Independent Analytical Center “Expert-Grup” compiled the rankings of the banks operating in Moldova, placing Universalbank among the last. The decision to deprive Universalbank SA of license was taken by the National Bank of Moldova on February 15, after establishing that the bank was insolvent and committed a series of irregularities.
