“The Clean Water Week” campaign that includes a series of activities for cleaning and disinfecting wells and springs is taking place in Chisinau from June 1 to June 11. According to the organisers, these activities aim at improving the quality of drinking water from the wells and springs in the capital city. Decision makers from the city’s main water supplier “Apa-Canal Chisinau” JSC said that at the completion of the project, the municipal authorities plan to equip each well and spring with water quality meters. The district offices, the suburban mayoralties and the Green Spaces Management have begun to clean up and sanitise the public wells and springs located in leisure zones in Chisinau. The springs Elena and Prietenie in Buiucani district, Tamara in Centru and Valea Trandafirilor in Botanica are going to be renovated and cleaned up. The Cleanest Well in Chisinau competition will also be held as part of “The Clean Water Week” campaign. “Apa-Canal Chisinau” administrates 59 local wells, including 12 wells with water for industrial purposes and 47 with drinking water. All the wells were chlorinated. Officially, the municipality of Chisinau has 1638 registered wells, but their number is actually bigger.
