Clean-up efforts are in full swing in Vadul lui Voda

Municipal authorities say commercial entities operating in Vadul lui Voda could have power supply by the end of this week, as clean-up efforts in the area, including removal of downed trees, are in full swing. On Monday the State Energy Inspectorate was to decide whether power supply will be resumed in the town. Some of the electrical wires were downed by the trees that fell after the floods. To verify if the electrical equipment and facilities are still working, a team of experts will inspect the area. Chisinau's chief arborist Eliferie Haruta told a City Hall meeting on Monday that 49 large trees have been removed from the area so far, with one hundred men being deployed on Monday to the zone for clean-up efforts. “We have the necessary equipment, the vehicles are ready, but there are not enough hands. We hope the Department of Emergencies will lend a helping hand starting Tuesday”, said Haruta. According to him, there is a threat that trees will continue falling because the soil is still very humid and the roots are loose. An emergency is to pump out floodwaters from the basements of the facilities in the resorts nearby and also from the the four quite large ponds created by floods. A staff of 15 is now working on water removal. Municipal preventive medicine officials said that only one case of dysentery has been reported so far. Water samples collected from resort locations “are not indicating any threat of disease outbreaks”. All the facilities will be disinfected once the water is completely removed. The first stage will be anti-mosquito water treatment. No problems with the pumping facilities providing water to Chisinau exist either, it was reported.
