The hall of the Theater “Satiricus. Ion Luca Caragiale” was not spacious enough for the people who came to see Eduardo De Filippo's comedy “Comedians” on Tuesday evening. The comedy was presented as part of the Classfest International Festival of Theater Schools, Info-Prim Neo reports. The play was performed by third-year students of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts of Chisinau. It was directed by Emil Gaju. The play is about a troupe of actors who arrive in a small town. After a recent failure, the troupe has to immediately stage a new play. The amorous relations that appear between the members of the troupe give color to the play. Revaz Shatachishvili, student of the Tbilisi-based Shota Rustaveli Theater and Film University, said he was impressed by the Moldovan students' performance even if he did not understand the subject as he does not know Romanian. On Wednesday, April 6, the Georgian students will present the play “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennesee Williams at “Licurici” Theater. Sanzana Darta, of the Bucharest-based National University of Theater and Cinema Arts, said she liked the play. “It was a bright performance. Those who came to the Festival can learn something from the Moldovan students,” she said. The students from Bucharest will put on the play “Pa-Dam, Pa-Dam”at “Licurici” Theater on April 8. Theater critic Dina Ghimpu has told Info-Prim Neo that Moldova needed such a festival. “It brings together many theater schools. We cannot develop our national theater school if we do not know at what stage it is and what esthetic and programmatic criteria use other schools with long traditions in theater,” she said. The first Classfest International Festival of Theater Schools was organized by the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Chisinau-based Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu”, the Chisinau City Hall and the Theater Union of Moldova. It is taking place in Chisinau between April 4 and 9.
