“ClassFest” brings together film schools from 13 countries

Over 100 films of different genres will be broadcast within this year’s edition of the International Festival of Theater and Film School “ClassFest” that is held during May 7-12. The opening of the ninth edition will take place at the Geneza Art Theater at 7:30pm on May 7. The documentary “Drawings by time”, made by students of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, will be screened after the inauguration, IPN reports.

The festival’s director Svetlana Târţău told a news conference that this year’s edition is intended for young filmmakers. Through this event they also check the teaching activity performed to train theater and film specialists.

Andrei Chistol, sectoral of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said the event is designed to develop the exchange of experience, cooperation and good practices between film schools from a number of countries. It comes to realize the potential of the National Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts in training filmmakers, directors and other specialists in filmmaking.

The Academy’s pro-rector Tatiana Comendant said the films that will be shown this year treat a number of social problems and the message that will be transmitted through them will influence a lot and will make the young people think about their role in society.

The festival will feature film schools from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Poland, Kazakhstan, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kirgizstan, and Moldova. There will be screened short and full-length fiction, documentary and animated feature films.

As from May 8, all the screenings will take place in the Union Hall of the National Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Entrance is free of charge.
