A clandestine line for producing corn seeds that were later sold under the trade name of the Phitotechny Institute “Porumbeni” was identified in the central storehouse of the state-run company Experimental Station “Chetrosu” in Todiresti village of Criuleni district, which is going through an insolvency process.
The illegalities were determined by members of a commission set up to inspect the fields managed by the state-run company that is controlled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry.
As a result of discussions with employees, it was established that the corn seeds were sold through an outlet housed by another insolvent state-owned enterprise. This was managed by the same authorized administrator. The illegally sold seeds were treated with phytosanitary products with the use-by date expired.
As a result of searches, the police confiscated about two tonnes of corn seeds.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry warns the agricultural producers to be cautious when they purchase corn seeds.
