The Independent Journalism Center (CJI) has launched a study that assesses the legal framework regulating adverting and provides recommendations for optimizing this. According to the authors, the study contains a comparative analysis of advertising distribution in Moldova and other states aimed at tracking the trends, IPN reports.
CJI executive director Nadine Gogu said the experts and journalists have warned about shortcomings in the field of advertising regulation. “Based on this study, legislation amendment or even law proposals will be later submitted,” she stated.
Media expert Ion Bunduchi noted there are 52 local and regional broadcasters in Moldova. These account for 3.8% of the turnover on the advertising market. “This shows how distorted this market is as the other 48 broadcasters account for 96%,” he said.
Jurist Eugeniu Rybka said the Law on Advertising is outdated. “We need this law to be radically modified or replaced so that commercial advertising and non-commercial advertising are clearly explained. We should be able to clearly define political advertising, electoral advertising,” he stated.
The statements were made in public debates that involved MPs, members of the Broadcasting Coordination Council, representatives of the Competition Council and the Consumer Protection Agency, journalists and representatives of advertising agencies.
