The new MPs have been met before the inaugural meeting of the new Parliament by representatives of civil society, who sang them traditional New Year's bids. The legislators have been reminded about the bills they failed to adopt in the previous Parliament and about the scandals surrounding Banca de Economii and the Chisinau International Airport, IPN reports.
“We've come to bid you, perhaps to criticize you, but first of all - form a working Parliament we urge you. Then we'd also like to ask about the BEM, if you happen to know who stole the gem. Banca de Economii – who robbed it and went unpunished?”, sang the members of the Council of NGOs, the National Council for Participation, the Volunteers' Coalition and other NGO associations.
They reminded the MPs that women aren't promoted sufficiently and stressed that once the law is adopted it must be respected. Another bid was to adopt the anti-tobacco package of laws.
Alexei Buzu, head of the “Partnership for Development” Center, said that other actions will follow in order to make the MPs more responsible than in the previous Parliament.
Civil society also has expectations regarding the opposition: to support the bills of national importance and to react when the government deviates from the national interest.
