Representatives of the civil society of Moldova asked the Prime Minister designate Vlad Filat to pay greater attention to the social sector and concrete social problems than the previous Government. They expressed their hope that the dialogue between the administration and the society will be constant, Info-Prim Neo reports. At a meeting of Vlad Filat and representatives of the civil society, banking sector, businesses, producers, investors, trade unions and employers on Monday, the former president of the NGO Hyde-Park Ghenadie Brega expressed his indignation at the fact that the civil society was driven into a corner, while the journalists were prevented from doing their job and penalized. He stressed the importance of naming competent persons to the posts of Minister of the Interior and Minister of Justice. “We want to know whether the new Government will investigate the April 7 and subsequent events and will hold accountable those who ordered persecuting the protesters. We are now in a situation when the people are afraid to talk over the phone and even in the kitchen,” Brega said. He invited representatives of the political class to take part in debates on a lustration law for banning access to government for persons who persecuted and committed crimes. For her part, the secretary general of the NGO Council of Moldova Antonita Fonari proposed that one of the next meetings of the civil society be centered on the youth, ecological problems and the human rights. The president of the European Academy of Civil Society Renata Verejanu voiced hope that the persecutions will come to an end now that the Communists are no longer in power. “I hope you will invite representatives of all the NGOs to the debates and will not only discuss financing problems, but also work out certain remediation strategies and policies,” she said. Filat promised to implement not only formal changes. “As concerns the Ministry of the Interior, I assume personal responsibility for its reorganization. I realize the importance of this institution for the state and know what monster it turned into,” he said.
