Representatives of five nongovernmental organizations that participated in debates on the strategy for reforming the Center for Combating Corrupting and Economic Crime (CCCEC) expressed their surprise at the statements made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who said that the method by which the institution is to be reformed concedes with the views of a political party. They consider the reform strategy is a good document that deserves attention, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We should remind the public servants and high-ranking officials that rapid progress in Moldova is not possible until there are fears that the public institutions designed to combat such phenomena as corruption can be instruments in the hands of political clans,” the director of the Association for Participative Democracy ADEPT Igor Botan said in a news conference. According to Igor Botan, the allusions or even assertions that the strategy is similar to the views promoted by a certain political party are strange as they show that the government officials who several months ago put forward the idea of freeing the public institutions from political influence continue to think according to the same models. “We monitor the political process in Moldova and the methods whereby the Government and the authorities fulfill the commitments they made to the people and the international organizations of which Moldova forms part,” said the ADEPT director. The NGOs that took part in the debates reached the conclusion that the straggly is a good document that can be improved with the active participation of representatives of civil society and the mass media. Maria Badan, consultant at the Resource Center for Human Rights, said that civil society wants the strategy for reforming the CCCEC to be studied so that there are formulated proposals, not objections. The five organizations adopted a statement in support of the strategy for reforming the CCCEC. The NGOs welcome the determination by which the administration of the CCCEC, the community of exerts and the international organizations make effort to essentially restructure the main corruption combating institution. They pleaded for transforming the CCCEC into a modern, independent and efficient, European-type institution. The five NGOs are the Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO), the Moldova Institute for Human Tights, the Human Rights Information Center (CIDO), the Association for Participative Democracy (ADEPT), and the Public Policy Institute (IPP).
