The Minister of Justice, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General will be invited to participate in radio programs on legal education, Info-Prim Neo reports. The series of programs “You have the Right to Know your Rights” forms part of a project designed to defend human rights, launched by Pro Nova Association in concert with the private law office “Victor Pantaru” and Vocea Basarabiei radio station.
The project is partially financed by the Embassy of the United States in Chisinau. Besides programs, there will be also organized online training courses and field trips.
In a news conference on Monday, project coordinator from Pro Nova Alexandru Nistiriuc said that during the ten-month project the people will be able to ask for free legal assistance. At least ten journalistic investigations will be carried out as part of the project on the basis of complaints from people. Lawyer Victor Pantaru said there will be examined mainly cases that could come before the ECHR.
According to Pantaru, the rights to property, petition, work, the freedom of expression and the right to a fair remedy are most often violated in Moldova.
The programs made in Chisinau will be broadcast by Vocea Basarabiei, while those produced in other settlements – by the local radio stations in Nisporeni, Cahul, Orhei, Glodeni and Cimislia. The project coordinators aim to inform more than 100,000 people about their rights and to provide legal advice to at least 450 persons.
Grigore Matasaru, the head of Pro Nova Association, said such a project is necessary as Moldova claims to be a democratic state for about 20 years, but national and international reports and studies show the things stand differently. “The human rights in Moldova are seriously violated, a proof being the large number of applications to the ECHR. This is because the people do not know their rights and where they can ask for help,” Matasaru said.
