The work of the national police commissariats will be monitored during two weeks within a campaign initiated by Promo-LEX Association in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 12, Promo-LEX chairman Ion Manole said there were instructed 38 monitors who will make field trips to analyze the work done by the police stations and commissariats based on their observations. They will also pay unexpected visits and will monitor the behavior and clothes of police officers and will study the informative panels inside these institutions. Another part of the campaign will center on the complaints of people. The citizens are asked to send pictures of the work of police officers to Promo-LEX or media outlets. “The image of the police in Moldova is as it is. Some have a very good impression, while others a very bad impression. We aim to establish whether the police are good or bad,” said the chairman of the NGO. He also said that the cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior is important in this campaign. When certain irregularities are identified, the Ministry should take steps to remove them and the employees who are an example should be promoted. Deputy Minister of the Interior Ion Bodrug said the Ministry supports this initiative of civil society. “For us it is useful to see the work done by the police with the critical eyes of the people. This way we will understand better what directions should be improved. It is an exercise that the authorities need regularly,” he stated. Ion Bodrug voiced hope that there will be emphasized the positive aspects of the police work as well. According to him, after the final report of the campaign is presented, they will take all the required measures. The campaign “With the Eyes on the Police” will be carried out during February 12-26. The pictures sent by people should refer only to this period.
