Civil society doubts the fact that Russia respects sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova
The civil society from Moldova doubts the fact that Russia respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova because Moscow supports the regime from Tiraspol. This is proved by the involvement of the Russian MPs and groups of interests in logistically and financially supporting Transnistria’s referendum on independence planned for September 17.
In an Appeal addressed to the leadership of Moldova, the Russian Federation, Romania, Ukraine, the USA, as well as to the European Parliament, General Secretariat of the Council of Europe, Presidency of OSCE, OSCE Mission to Moldova, mass-media and public opinion, the representatives of NGOs ask the international community to condemn the violent way Moscow promotes its interests in eastern Moldova.
The signers of the Appeal draw the attention of the international community to the fact that the authorities of the self-proclaimed Transnistrian Republic constructed a criminal and antidemocratic regime, which constantly violates human rights, by continuous misinformation and anti-European propaganda. In this context, the organization of the referendum on the international recognition of the breakaway region and the appeals launched by some circles from Tiraspol about a possible adhering of this territory to the Russian Federation is an illegal and unacceptable act. At the same time, taking into consideration the financial support offered by Russia to the regime from Tiraspol, including for organizing the referendum, the signers of the appeal ask the decision-making authorities to solicit Moscow to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
The authors of the appeal call on the population from the Transnistrian region not to be influenced by the separatist regime and not to participate in the unconstitutional and illegal referendum, saying that its results will not be recognized, because it does not express the real conviction of the population, as long as the region is controlled by a totalitarian regime, lacking independent media or a opposition and free civil society.
The signers of the appeal are the Association for Democracy, Education and Reforms, Regional Law Center – Causeni, Civic and Political Culture Association from Moldova, Information, “CAPTES” Instruction and Social Analysis Center, “United European Moldova” Association, “Europa Nova Movement, “CABO” United Youth Organization, “Pro Europa” Transnistrian organization, Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Moldova, Transnistrian Students Association, “Promolex” public organization.
