Civil society demands continuing European integration efforts and condemning Communism

People of culture and civil society leaders called upon the political parties that entered Parliament to continue the efforts made on the path to European integration. The participants in the Great National Assembly that brought together several thousands of people on December 26 chanted “We want in Europe” and “Down with the Communists”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Alliance for European Integration must continue the economic reforms, the European integration efforts and the efforts to restore the scientific truth about the language and history and to condemn Communism,” said the director of the paper “Literatura si Arta” (“Literature and Art”) Nicolae Dabija. The speakers addressed the future government, demanding that the report of the Cojocaru commission for studying and assessing the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova be presented at the first sittings of the new legislative body. They also demanded taking down all the monuments to Lenin and his supporters and banning the current symbols of the PCRM. Ion Ungureanu, former Minister of Culture, read a civil society Decalogue for the future alliance that includes the following demands: promotion of the national interest, efficient governance, transparency, respect for the law, the fight against corruption, and others. “Several times a year, there should be a dialogue between the people and the President, Prime Minister and Head of Parliament,” Ion Ungureanu said, reading the Decalogue. It was the third public rally staged by the Civic Forum “Pro Europa” the third consecutive Sunday. The forum was founded early in December by people of culture and civil society leaders who plead for the continuation of the European integration reforms and for banning the PCRM and its symbols.
