Civil Society Congress backs Communists
A non-governmental organization titling itself as “The Civil Society Congress” declares its support for the Communists Party in the Wednesday snap parliamentary elections.
“The political parties have divided into two parts. One deals with political skirmishes, the other – with defending the state's interests and with fighting the economic crisis,” NGO leader Iuri Parfionov reasoned his option at a news conference on July 27. “We're not interested in promises, but in what's being already done,” he is quoted by Info-Prim Neo as saying.
The NGO leader has said the April protests have been the key debate topic in this race, “and only the PCRM has managed to overcome the problem.” The Civil Society Congress says it gets ready legal modifications to prevent a possible repetition of the April events, but gave no details. “I call on voters to give a firm and final answer to the destructive forces,” Parfionov has said.
A member of the Civil Society Congress, Dorian Pilacau, is part of the commission decreed by the president to investigate the April events. Pilacau has told the conference that commission has suspended its work during the race, and in August it is to be assisted by two European experts. When asked by Info-Prim Neo's report to estimate the trustworthiness of that commission, since it does not comprise representatives of the opposition parties, Dorian Pilacau has said the latter ones had not wanted to appoint delegates, although were offered to do so.
