Media non-governmental organizations issue a joint statement condemning the case in the Buiucani police office in Chisinau where a PRO TV cameraman was beaten by policemen, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Sambra, a cameraman employed by PRO TV Chisinau, was arrested in the street on Wednesday evening and taken to the commissariat of the Buiucani police, where he was allegedly beastly beaten by policemen until he fainted. According to the forensic doctor, the cameraman has brain concussion and his nose broken. The management of the TV station does not rule out that the cameraman was arrested after he had filmed the protests of the Liberal Party in front of the Russian Embassy to Chisinau, where protesters clashed with the police. Another crews of PRO TV was rudely treated by a policeman and the deputy commissar from Orhei town, Petru Golban, in the quarters of the district court, as the crew was on duty. “These cases incontestably express the police's defiance and gross ignoring of the media's fundamental rights and freedoms in exercising its public rights of a watchdog and representative of the public interest,” the media NGOs find. They ask the Government to probe the two cases and to sanction the people guilty of the aggression against the la PRO TV journalists, they also ask the international bodies to ensure the observance of the journalists' rights and freedoms in exerting their public mission. The statement signatories also ask the international bodies, the embassies accredited to Chisinau, to react to “the gross violated occurring more and more often in Moldova in the area of the journalists exerting their professional duties.” The statement is signed by the Independent Press Association, the APEL Electronic Press Association, the Independent Journalism Center, the Investigative Journalism Center, the Journalists Union, the Young Journalist Center, the unimedia.md news portal, the Press Freedom Committee and the Acces-Info Center.
