Civil society, as Government, depends on foreign grants, experts
The NGOs of Moldova depend on foreign grants and are not very active in resolving problems, say experts. “In Moldova there are tick-like nongovernmental organizations, NGOs that consumed projects and then closed,” the director of the Helsinki Committee of Moldova Teo Cirnat said in the program “Fabrica” on Publika TV, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The expert also said that we have yet NGOs that do their job well.
Cornelia Cozonac, director of the Investigation Journalism Center, said that she wasn’t satisfied with Moldova’s civil society. “It must be on the same position with the press. Civil society must be bold. There are many active human rights organizations, but their number is not enough. The legal framework regulating the activity of the NGOs must be reviewed. The citizens from foreign countries make donations to NGOs. In our country, such a practice is not common. That’s why we are dependent on foreign grants. Problems are encountered as regards transparency in the case of grants and backers,” she stated.
Political analyst Igor Botan considers that civil society is a competition ground. According to him, there are three sectors: the Government, the business sector and the sector where the other problems are solved and the people become involved. There is also the fourth sector – the family, which is a cell of society. The political parties are particles of civil society. We, those who represent civil society, are often called Washington’s spies. The Moldovan civil society depends on foreign grants, as the Government,” said the analyst.
The experts said that during the two years of political crisis, the NGOs expressed their dissatisfaction with the political class, but did not suggest solutions for overcoming the crisis.
In Moldova there are registered about 6,000 NGOs, but only several dozens are active.
