Rescuers and firefighters in several subdivisions of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service (SPCSE) received 10 new special vehicles, Info-Prim Neo reports. SPCSE head Mihail Harabagiu stated at the key-handing-over ceremony on Wednesday that equipping the rescuers with equipment, vehicles and tools of the highest standards is a priority which can save lives. “A good example was when thanks to the use of modern special vehicles during disaster-relief efforts in the aftermath of the 2010 floods we were able to act swiftly and efficiently. This is why I am absolutely certain that purchases of equipment are a necessity and a priority in the development of a rescue service”, said Mihail Harabagiu. The cost of one vehicle is 360,000 lei. Expenses were covered from public funds allocated to the SPCSE and from the money left over from the drill “Codrii 2011”. In 2012 the purchased vehicles will be equipped with hydraulic rescue tools. The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service has 11 other similar vehicles which were bought at the end of 2008.
