Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections urges people to take part in September 5 referendum
The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections will participate in the campaign for the September 5 constitutional referendum and will encourage the people to cast their votes in the referendum, without telling them how to vote - “For” or “Against”, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Coalition.
The Coalition says the September 5 constitutional referendum is within the law and the people’s right to take part in elections cannot be restricted or conditioned by the interests of certain politician forces. “The Coalition in the coming period will implement a series of civic and electoral education projects designed to stimulate the active, free and conscious participation of the people in the referendum,” it is said in the communiqué.
In its statement, the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections calls on the authorities responsible for the organization of the elections to take measures to inform the people about the constitutional referendum that will take place in Moldova for the first time.
“Given that the plebiscite will take place at the start of the academic year, the Coalition requests the Central Election Commission to inform the students with the right to vote about the method of participation in the referendum in other places than their domicile,” the statement says.
The Coalition also asks the Ministry of Education to provide the students accommodated in dormitories with residence visas in the near future so that they are able to exercise their right to vote in the town where they study.
