City Hall will organise events to commemorate Alexandru Bernardazzi

The Chisinau City Hall will organise a series of events to commemorate architect Alexandru Bernardazzi on the occasion of his 100th death anniversary. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has signed an ordinance concerning the commemoration of the first honorary citizen of Chisinau. A number of cultural and artistic events will be held on August 14 at the residence of the late architect, as well as at the sites displaying his architectural works. The City Hall units are to organise at the Chisinau Museum, in educational establishments, city libraries and centres for children a series of cultural events, including exhibitions, lectures and competitions, devoted to the memory of the prominent architect. By July 20, it will be created a working group to evaluate the condition of the buildings designed by Bernardazzi, and to subsequently draw up a plan on their restoration. In addition, by August 10, the city authorities intend to beautify the street bearing his name. Furthermore, the municipality will consider the possibility to establish the Alexandru Bernardazzi Museum and to found a scholarship in his name. The source to cover the expenses required for the commemorative events is to be identified by the city Finance Department, in cooperation with other agencies, with a respective draft decision expected to be submitted to the City Council for consideration. Alexandru Bernardazzi was in 1856–1878 the chief architect of the capital city.
