More foreign investors in the capital city means development and jobs for the Moldovans, while the country will be able to integrate into the Europe Union and to attract investment from there, ensuring a comfortable working environment, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said in a news conference at IPN. The mayor took part in the conference in connection with the holding in Chisinau of the week “Joy in Movement”, supported by the hypermarket chain Kaufland, which intends to open a number of stores in the capital city.
Dorin Chirtoaca said that Kaufland is a strategic investor for the Republic of Moldova. According to him, the fact that this company supports such events as “Joy in Movement” shows that it wants to know Moldova by a civilized method.
“We want this investor as well as other investors that we aim to attract to Chisinau to feel comfortable and to enjoy the conditions provided by the law so that we integrate into Europe this way. This means jobs, civilized trading infrastructure, correct prices at European level, correct profit margin, etc.,” said Dorin Chirtoaca.
He also said that the process of building the Kaufland shops in Moldova has started. They are now holding negotiations to choose the plots where these will be erected. “We can be accused of lobbying, but I’m not afraid. I will lobby for any renowned and credible company, especially from the West, so that the Republic of Moldova and Chisinau become civilized,” stated the mayor.
Anna Katharina Scheidereiter, the representative of the hypermarket chain Kaufland, said that as far as she knows, a number of shops of this chain will be opened in Moldova. The first shop is to be opened by the end of next year.
The hypermarket chain Kaufland during ten years became a leader on the market in Romania and has 16,000 employees there. The company has supported the event “Joy in Movement” in Romania since its launch. This event is held in Chisinau for the first time. A series of activities to promote sports are staged within the week “Joy in Movement”.
