The City Hall of the Municipality of Chisinau will soon appoint a commission to organise the auctions and the landed contests for the construction of a shelter for stray dogs. In March, the Chisinau Municipal Council made a decision to sell two plots by auction and landed contests for the construction of a shelter and a veterinary clinic for the stray dogs. A plot with an area of 0.6 ha was allotted on Balcani Street, and the second one, of 0.62 ha – on Uzinelor Street. According to a press release of the City Hall, starting May 2007, the stray dogs are caught only at the request of the citizens and petitions of the district offices or economic entities. As of May, the Municipal Company “Autosalubritate” collected the carcasses of the dead animals, obligation which was given to the company according to “The Regulation on the maintenance of dogs in the settlements of Moldova”. The Company caught 984 dogs within May-July and transported them outside the city, without causing them any harm.
