On the occasion of August 24 celebration, which marks the end of Iasi – Chisinau operation, important moment of the Second World War, Mayor General of the Municipality of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca has separately met with the veterans of the Romanian and Soviet Army. Dorin Chirtoaca thanked the veterans for the sacrifice made in the name of peace and for the efforts to refit Chisinau after the war. The Mayor asked them to participate in educating the young generation and solving the most serious problems of Chisinau. Also, Dorin Chirtoaca apologised in front of the veterans of the Romanian Army in the name of all the institutions of Moldova for the discriminatory treatment during the last years. “We should follow the European concept of the notion of veteran, when those who participated in wars are bestowed honours and facilities without taking into consideration the side they fought for”, the Mayor stated. Also, the City Hall offered a money indemnity to the veterans.
