City Hall employees should not be granted dwellings in detriment to other residents – Mayor

Mayor General of the Municipality of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca says he is against granting of dwellings to the employees of the City Hall in detriment to the residents of Chisinau who are in need. On Monday, July 16, during the session of the City Hall, Chirtoaca said that he has lately heard people who have serious problems with the dwellings, including persons who were left without homes as a result of the natural disasters or have deteriorated dwellings, and each time when such a request comes to the City Hall, the persons in charge say that there are no free spaces in the housing sector of the municipality. At the same time, he was given for signing a decision by means of which a person employed for only 3 months in the City Hall had to receive an apartment. Moreover, the aforementioned employee, senior specialist with the Housing Department is the eighth in a waiting list for dwellings. Because the consent of the first persons included in the list was attached to the draft decision so that the employee could receive the dwelling, the mayor admits that these signatures could have been obtained illegally. Dorin Chirtoaca said that there are several draft decisions of this type at the City Hall, asking the persons in charge to present for examination all the files of the persons requesting dwellings immediately after the session. The Mayor said he is totally against such practices, asking to exclude discriminatory situations in the future. In addition, he demanded transparency as regards the housing sector, the criteria for granting and the situation of the persons who are to receive dwellings.
