City Hall banned Historians Association demonstration in front of the Ministry of Education and Youth

Chisinau City Hall rejected the request of the Historians Association of Moldova (HAM) to demonstrate in front of the Ministry of Education and Youth (MEY) on November 7, 8 and 9, as a disapproval of the introduction of the integrated history course in schools. Gheorghe Paladi, president of the HAM declared for Info-Prim Neo that the authorities have rejected the request because “in order to keep the 50 meters distance from the house of government, the demonstration participants have to be situated on the Mitropolit Bănulescu Bodoni Street sidewalks, and this will disturb the pedestrians”. Instead, he mentioned, a demonstration was authorized during 13.30-15.30 on November 9, in the square of the Opera House. Vice-mayor Petru Svet declared for the Agency that only the November 9 meting was authorized, because there will be a gathering of the Communist Party on November 7, and of the Social Democratic Party on November 8. The integrated history course has been introduced as compulsory in the Republic of Moldova high-schools from September 1 2006. Several political formations and non-governmental organizations have protested against the introduction of this course.
