Citizens from two more European states may visit Moldova without visa
The citizens of Norway and Iceland may travel to Moldova without holding a visa. The Parliament approved Wednesday, December 27 a bill in this respect.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as part of the discussions with the representatives of the European commission, Moldova was invited to include the two states in the list of those whose citizens will not need a visa to visit Moldova. At the same time, Moldova has signed with Norway the agreement on readmission, while in July it forwarded to the Norwegian side the proposal to initiate negotiations on an agreement regarding visa regime facilitation.
A number of MPs proposed to include Israel in the respective list as well. Iurie Stoicov, head of the Commission for national security, defence and public order, mentioned that a readmission agreement is needed before the visa regime for the citizens of this state is annulled.
In 2005, Moldova issued 630 visas to the citizens of Norway and Iceland, and over 80 in the first semester of the current year.
On June 8, the Parliament passed a bill by which the visa regime for the citizens of the EU member states, the USA, Canada, Switzerland and Japan, was annulled. The law will come into force on January 1, 2007.
