Circulation of cargo trains through Transnistria to be resumed

Moldovan Railway and Ukrainian Railway signed on September 7 in Chisinau a temporary agreement on organizing circulation of cargo trains on the segment Cuciurgan – Causeni. This agreement settles the technical and technological basis of freight trains’ circulation between the railways of Ukraine and Moldova, including ensuring train’s security and the way responsibilities will be managed in case the trains will be delayed. The agreement is functional until January 31, 2007 and came into force on September 8. Director’s counselor of Moldovan Railway, Anatol Tvetcov told Info-Prim that according to this agreement the Ukrainian authorities took upon themselves the responsibility for the situation when cargo wagons would be sequestered ion the territory of Transnistria as it happened on March 4, 2006. The problem of train’s circulation occurred on September 2006 when the Ukrainian State Railway Administration “Ucrzaliznitea” closed the bridge located on the 116th km of the Railway segment Moghilov-Podolski-Ocnita which ensures circulation through the northern Moldova. Also the circulation of passenger trains of the railway Ocnita-Jemrinka was resumed, after the aforementioned bridge had been closed. This segment will function until the railway segment Ocnita-Moghiliov-Podolsk will be reopened on September 29. Because the new railway segment does not have proper technical capacity, the circulation of freight trains was stopped for a short time. Moldovan and Ukrainian experts discussed in Chisinau during September 6-7 ways of resuming goods trains’ circulation.
