CinePOLSKA brings six new films to Chisinau

The Polish Film Festival CinePOLSKA comes to Chisinau with six new films that were awarded at important international festivals. Moviegoers can watch them at the Odeon Cinema in Chisinau during November 8-13, IPN reports.

CinePOLSKA starts on November 8 with the film “Cold war” directed by Paweł Pawlikowski. This year it was awarded at the Cannes for the best direction and was nominated for Oscar. The film presents the impossible love between two persons who cannot be together, but who cannot live without each other during the Cold War in Poland, Germany, Yugoslavia and France.

The festival continues the next day with the screening of Polish director Paweł Maślona’s comedy “Panic attack”. Owing to unusual events, daily life turns into craziness. The fates of several heroes who do not seem to have a connection between them intersect in the film and their life changes irreversibly.

Łukasz Palkowski’s film “The fastest, most powerful” will be shown on November 10. Its hero Jerzy Górski, a former drug addict, in 1990 became double Ironman (triathlon) world champion despite the difficulties experienced in life.

Piotr Domalewski’s film “A quiet nigh” will be screened on November 11. It tells the story of a young Polish emigrant who comes to his native village on the eve of Christmas. After that visit, the life of his whole family changed completely.

On November 11, there will be shown the U.S. production “Garden of hope” directed by Niki Caro  of New Zealand. This is about the family of Antonina and Jan Żabiński, director of the Warsaw Zoological Garden during World War II. The two saved over 300 Jews in their villa situated on the territory of the zoo.

The festival ends on November 12 with the screening of “Birds are singing in Kigali” directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze. The actresses who play the main parts in this film, Jowita Budnik of Poland and Eliane Umuhire of Rwanda, were named best actresses at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

The screenings start at 7pm each day. The films will be subtitled in Romanian. Entrance is free of charge. The festival is organized by the Polish Institute in Bucharest in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau, Moldova Film Studio and the Odeon Cultural Center.
