Tens of thousands of cigarettes that were illegally smuggled into the country were seized following a search. The good, with an estimated value of about 500,000 lei, were destined for the domestic and black markets in other countries, IPN reports.

At the home of the suspect, a 60-year-old man from the capital city, the police discovered several boxes of cigarettes in the garage, some marked with an excise stamp, and others not. Following the search, 525,000 cigarettes were seized and will be used as evidence in the investigation.

The man is investigated in a state of freedom and the criminal proceedings continue.
