The previous cigarette smuggling schemes were taken over by the Democratic Party (PDM) and modernized according to the current realities. Until 2014, the groups that smuggled contraband worked chaotically, but now there is impeccable discipline between these and they work in an organized way, officer in reserve of the Border Police, lieutenant-colonel Gheorghe Petic stated in the program “Black box” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Gheorghe Petic said there are groups that operate only through the customs posts and there are groups that operate outside the border crossing points, through the green areas. “Those who work through the customs posts do not become involved in the corridors created outside the customs posts and vice versa,” said the officer in reserve. According to him, each group smuggles only one brand of cigarettes.

The former police officer said he has received signals from ex-colleagues about smuggling through different sectors of the border. He made this information public on social networking sites. Some of the cases were investigated by the border police of the neighboring states.
