On Easter night, the parishioners who go to church will turn on candles only in designated places, at a safe distance from combustible items. The candles near icons will be under permanent supervision. All the churches must be outfitted with basic firefighting equipment and the access ways for firefighting vehicles should be maintained free so that the vehicles could swiftly get to the place in case of an emergency. By tradition, employees of the Genera Inspectorate for Emergency Situations before Easter inspect churches to see if they ensure fire safety. Until now the institution’s employees visited almost 1,500 churches and formulated recommendations for them. Today they visited the Chisinau Church “Great Saint Martyr Theodore Tiron”, IPN reports.
According to the church’s managing priest Church Nicolae Roșca, their monastery took all the measures for the attending faithful to be safe. “We brought special, closed glass candles that enable the Christians to safely take the Holy Fire home. They are in the monastery’s storeroom. There were renewed the fire extinguishers. They were placed in visible places so that they could be taken quickly if necessary. There were assigned persons who will take care of the candles burning at the entrance. There is a special place for putting candles. It is far from combustibles materials,” said the priest.
The grownups are urged to keep the children under supervision, primarily near open fire. At home, the candles must be placed on a fireproof support and should not be left to burn unsupervised.
Almost 2,000 church employees were trained how to prevent fire within a campaign ahead of the Easter holidays to as to make sure that the fire safety rules in the period are observed.
