The Church is still the most trusted institution among Moldovans. According to the Socio-Political Barometer (BSP) OMNIMAS by IMAS-Inc Chisinau, 83% of respondents have “much” to “very much trust” in the Church, and only 14% do not trust this institution. The same opinion poll revealed that mass-media ranks second in terms of level of trust, earning 57%. However, the number of respondents who do not trust mass-media remains rather high – 38%. The Mayoralty as an institution gained the trust of 47% and mistrust of 48%; the Army – 47% and 45%, respectively; the Government – 49% to 46%; the President’s Office – 50 to 46%; Parliament – 49% and 47%, respectively. Political parties are the institutions that ranked worst among Moldovans, with 73% mistrusting them, and only 19% having confidence in this institution. Respondents expressed little confidence in Justice too, with 60% on the negative side of the confidence scale and 29% on the positive one. The banking system is trusted by 35% and not trusted by 56%. Against the BSP results of February 2006, Parliament lost 9% of confidence, Mayoralty 7%, and mass-media 6%. The Socio-Political Barometer (BSP) OMNIMAS was conducted by IMAS-Inc Chisinau between March 14 and 23, on a sample of 1091 people living in Moldova, excepting Transnistria. The maximal sampling error is 3%.
