Holy Saturday, also known as the Great Sabbath, Black Saturday, or Easter Eve, is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week in which Christians prepare for Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ's body lay in the tomb, IPN reports.
On Holy Saturday, the Christians remember the events that happened after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, when God’s mother and pious women went to the cave where Christ’s body was laid in order to embalm him and discovered that he was alive. The liturgical service of Saint Basil and the vespers are held in churches. After reading the Books of the Apostles, the Church changes the black raiment for white one.
Contacted by IPN, priest Viorel Cojocaru, of the “Silent Hearts Church” in Chisinau, said it’s no use going to the church in the morning to have the food blessed. The Christians must take part in the Easter service. “We must prepare with all love for this holiday and have God in our hearts,” he stated.
