Church becomes involved in settlement of Transnistrian conflict

The Moldovan Metropolitan Church gets involved in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process by different actions, His Holiness Vladimir has said. “We are glad that the Transnistrian leader promised that the borders between the left and rights sides of the Nistru River will be opened on Easter. Thus, the people will be able to freely go the graves of their relatives,” the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and All Moldova has told the journalists, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. His Holiness Vladimir said that he paid a visit to Moscow, where he met with Patriarch Kirill and the Transnistrian leader Yevgeny Shevchuk simultaneously. The latter pledged to take into consideration the needs of the people living on the right bank of the Nistru, including the representatives of the Church. “We suggested, together with Bishop Sava of Tiraspol, organizing joint meetings in the future so as to negotiate certain aspects that are now problematic for our society. These meetings will involve combatants of the Nistru war because they have what to say,” said His Holiness Vladimir. Chisinau and Tiraspol agreed to facilitate the crossing of the internal checkpoints during the Easter holidays.
