The main Christmas tree placed in the Great National Assembly of Chisinau was inaugurated on December 1 together with the holiday lighting on the streets of the capital city. The same day, there were opened a Children’s World town in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” and a Christmas Village in the square of the National Opera House “Maria Bieșu”, IPN reports.
The lights were turned on by mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban together with his family and minister of education, culture and research Corneliu Popovici. Ion Ceban, called on the people to join forces so as to be a united society. He noted the Chisinau City Hall spent 3 million lei on the celebration staged in the city center. For his part, Corneliu Popovici wished everyone good health and happiness and assured that 2020 will be a very good year with accomplishments for all.
The event brought together hundreds of grownups and children, who danced and sang. The concert featured the Presidential Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Ministry of the Interior, the Municipal Puppet Theater “Guguță”, Amelia Uzun, Cornelia Ștefăneț, the Choir “Lia-Ciocârlia”, Nelly Ciobanu, BrioSonores.
During the event, the senior state officials, who went to inaugurate the winter holidays in other parts of the country, spoke live. President Igor Dodon and his family travelled to Coșnița village in Dubăsari district, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi to Briceni, while Prime Minister Ion Chicu to Soroca. The Bashkan of Gagauzia Irina Vlah also broadcast a congratulatory message on the occasion of the winter holidays.
The Christmas tree inaugurated in the central square of Chisinau was donated to the municipality by an artificial fir trees making company last year. It is conic in form and is 20 meters in height. The tree has a life of 7-8 years and can be later renewed by using the old body and replacing the ornaments. This year it was mainly decorated with baubles bought last year. About 35,000 lei was allocated for purchasing new decorations.
A carousel and other entertainment designs will be available downtown as of December 2. Those willing can take pictures together with Santa Claus.
