Activities dedicated to winter holidays will take place from December 1 to January 10 in the Square of the Grand National Assembly (PMAN) and in the square of "Nativity of the Lord" Metropolitan Cathedral. The events dedicated to winter holidays will start this Sunday with an artistic program. Artistic groups from all over the Republic of Moldova will promote folk dance and song.
The Minister of education, culture and research, Corneliu Popovici, has told IPN that the Christmas Fair will be held this year in the Cathedral square. It will be open to visitors starting December 21.
According to the Government decision, "Moldova-Concert" state-owned enterprise is to be contracted as organizer of activities dedicated to winter holidays. The economic agents will sell their products in the same booths used in the last two years at the Christmas Fair on August 31st street, which will not be held this year.
The head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sergiu Harea, has told IPN that the number of economic agents participating in the fair has not yet been established. It is certain that there will be only domestic producers. At the fair there will be exhibited specific products for winter holidays such as toys and souvenirs made of ceramics, wood, candles and garlands etc. Also, sweets, cakes, dried fruits, mulled wine will be sold.
According to a Government decision, the expenses for organizing activities dedicated to winter holidays and promoting local products and tourism potential of the Republic of Moldova will be financed with up to 3.7 million lei by the Ministry of Education, respectively, with up to 5 million lei by the Investment Agency.
Two years in a row, on August 31st street in the capital, the Christmas Fair was held at the initiative of the then prime minister, Pavel Filip. A Christmas tree used to be decorated near "Nicolae Sulac" National Palace, while another Christmas tree used to be installed in PMAN by the City Hall.
This year winter holidays are organized by the executive jointly with the municipality.
