Christians should celebrate Easter internally, by prayer and near dear ones, priest

Even if some of the people decorate their houses, paint the trees with lime and put on new clothes on Easter, these things should be secondary for the faithful who should lay emphasis on the meaning of the return to life of Jesus Christ, said Octavian Moșin, priest of the Meeting of God Church of the State University of Moldova, IPN reports.

He noted that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is an awaited and preferred feast day that represents the nucleus of the church year. A complex explanation of the word “Easter” comes from the Christian background of Easter rather than the pagan. The early Latin name for the week of Easter was hebdomada alba or “white week,” while the Sunday after Easter day was called Dominica in albis from the white robes of those who had been newly baptized.

All the festivals in Orthodoxy are commemorative in character and through them we remember events from the biblical history related to Jesus Christ. Everything God asks from us amounts to one commandment – to love God and the close ones. “Love for your enemy is the supreme form of love shown by God on his way.”

The significance of Easter is Jesus Christ’s triumph over death. His resurrection means the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The purpose of Easter also means the full confirmation of all that Jesus taught and preached during His three-year ministry.

Octavian Moșin called on the faithful to be near the dear ones with whom they can share their sorrows and joys and to also help those in need.

He noted that “Happy Easter!” is not the most suitable form of greeting as everyone wants to be happy and it’s better to greet each other with “Christ is risen!” and “He is risen indeed!” during 40 days, after Easter.
