Chisinau’s specialized services have ten days to finalize foliage removal
The specialized services within the Chisinau City Hall are to finalize until December 1 the territory’s sanitation works related to transportation and removal of foliage. This task was set Monday November 20 by interim mayor Vasile Ursu.
Head of dwelling-communal division Mihai Solcan told the sitting that till now the authorities transported about 10 thousand cu. m of leaves, which constitutes only half of the total volume of foliage that is falling each year in Chisinau. Over 140 soldiers and 380 students and pupils from vocational schools were involved in removing foliage last week. Their involvement in these activities will continue this week as well, Solcan added.
Ursu mentioned that the greening for which Chisinau is remarkable during the summer becomes a very big problem in autumn. According to him, if till now there was managed to transport the leaves form the main streets, “actions to remove them in the districts are not undertaken yet, and the leaves gathered by residents risk being spread by any powerful wind”.
Leveling criticisms at the press because it “issued contradictory information” on his declaration that the students’ trade unions decided to involve in the territory’s sanitation works, Ursu insisted on this process saying that many poor students are willing to gain some money. In addition, Ursu mentioned that they represent the “healthy” categories of the society, as they are not indifferent to the city’s situation, but he couldn’t say anything about the students’ remuneration for these activities.
Last year, due to insufficient financial resources, the specialized services did not manage to remove the foliage from the whole city’s territory until the snowfall. That was a reason for which the works of gathering leaves and sanitation in the territories have also continued in spring, when the necessary means were transferred from the ecologic Fund. This year’s expenses for transporting the fallen leaves will be covered from the Fund’s resources as well.
