The Chisinau Electric Transport Company (RTEC) is putting the city's oldest trolleybus back on the wires as part of celebrations of the company's 60th anniversary. The bus, an MTB, will follow its initial route: Toma Ciorba Street – Train Station, Info-Prim Neo reports. Put in service on 12 October 1949, the city's first trolleybus route was 7 kilometers long and had 6 vehicles, says RTEC director Gheorghe Morgoci. “Today RTEC operates roughly 300 kilometers of network and 328 vehicles. In the past, the 6 trolleybuses were daily conveying 24,000 passengers. Now we service 300,000 to 400,000 passengers each day”, added Morgoci. The operator who sat behind the wheel of the first trolleybus was named Stefan Parfentiev. He was assisted by Maria Grecu, the first conductress.
