Chisinau's Council postpones session again

The sitting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) scheduled for May 28 has been postponed for the second time in row, as it lacked quorum. The same happened later last week, Info-Prim Neo reports. Only 24 of those 51 councilors turned up for today's sitting, as 26 were necessary to have quorum. Christian-Democratic (PPCD) faction leader Alexandru Corduneanu, who missed the last session, has said he and his colleagues were on mission. Corduneanu says his faction will attend the next sitting, but suggested it may not take place. AMN councilor Oleg Cernei was found in the City Hall quarters to say he was not aware of today's sitting. “Our Communists colleagues ignored the last sitting and convened this one. It's a game behind the curtain and it's a pity it happens,” Cernei told journalists. Svetlana Popa, the Communist faction president, has accused the opposition for ignoring today's session. “The only body still working in Chisinau was the CMC. You see what happens now with the opposition members involved in the election campaign,” Popa said. The last attempt to gather the councilors will be made on June 2. According to the CMC secretary the next session was convened last week by the councilors from the Liberal Party (PL), Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Our Moldova Alliance (AMN), Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the National Liberal councilor, who were not present today.
