The Moldovan authorities will have the same answer for Ukraine as for Russia as regards the request to open an official consulate in Tiraspol. Chisinau said this thing is not possible as the constitutional authorities do not have control over Transnistria and cannot guarantee the security of the foreign diplomats. The head of the Reintegration Office Gheorghe Balan has told IPN that the Ukrainian side will be offered to open a consulate in another settlement.
On October 30, Ukraine asked allowing it to open a consulate in Tiraspol. Earlier, a similar request was made by Russia.
Gheorghe Balan said they will not reject Ukraine’s proposal, but will offer an alternative where they can open the consulate. “For example in Varnita village. If we analyze things, we see that most of the Ukrainians live in Rybnitsa and Camenca. So, it would be more convenient for them to have a consulate in Rezina rather than in Tiraspol,” he stated.
An official answer will be given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
