Chisinau will have new trolleybuses in a year
The 90 new trolleybuses that will be bought by the Chisinau administration will start running on routes in the capital city in a year. A draft decision to this effect was adopted at the July 6 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council. Under the decision, the trolleybuses will be purchased in installments, from next February until June, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The offers can be tendered by September 1, 2010. The head of the Chisinau Trolleybus Company Gheorghe Morgoci said the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide €13 million to the Chisinau administration - €3 million as capital subsidization and a loan of €10 million repayable in 10 years, with a grace period of two years and an interest rate of 5%.
Morgoci informed the new, modern trolleybuses will have wheelchair access. “They will not have air conditioning because it is too expensive and the price of the ticket does not allow making such investments,” he said.
According to him, 170 more trolleybuses will have to be bought in the future. Currently, the Trolleybus Company has 308 trolleybuses, but only 67 of them meet the technical norms and can run on routes.
