The water supplier SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” said that a number of town councils from the suburbs of Chisinau want to oblige the company to lease the areas adjoining the sewerage and water supply facilities and pay an annual rent. The local administrations of Sangera and Vatra towns are the most recent relevant examples, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the company, the Sangera town council decided that two artesian wells and the wastewater treatment station will be leased out to “Apa-Canal Chisinau” for rent. A similar decision was issued by the Vatra town council. The council ordered transferring the land adjoining the wastewater treatment station situated in Vatra to the company for a period of 50 years. The water supplier is to pay a rent of 2% of the normative price of the land annually. The municipal supplier considers that the given decisions limit the company’s right to legally use the land that is intended for providing sewerage and water supply services. According to the company, the legislation provides that the given plots are allocated free, on a permanent basis, to industrial companies, institutions and organizations that own water treatment stations, electric power installations, engineering communications, etc. The company also said that if the Chisinau Municipal Company set rent for the plots adjoining all the facilities and installations of “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, which occupy an area of about 260 hectares, the costs will amount to 20 million lei yearly and will be included in the water and sewerage charges for end users.
