“Apă-Canal Chisinau” completed the process of installing two centrifuges for treating mud at the wastewater treatment station. As of February 21, the mud will no longer be dehydrated in geotubes, but will be processed faster with the assistance of centrifuges that work uninterruptedly. The dehydrated mud could be used in agriculture, the company’s director general Valeriu Meșca stated in the inaugural event, IPN reports.
The supplier invested 16 million lei. “We plan to gradually modernize the whole wastewater treatment process. The installation of the two centrifuges is a new stage in the modernization of the wastewater treatment station that will enable to treat the mud according to European standards,” said the director.
Attending the launch, acting mayor Ruslan Codreanu said everyone stands to gain from this investment. The inhabitants of Chisinau will no longer feel the unpleasant smell emitted at the wastewater treatment station when the geotubes are being cleaned. As regards the water supplier, the installation of centrifuges means treatment of mud according to European practices.
A number of 144 disposable geotube sacks were used annually until now. These cost over 7.5 million lei, being deposited on area of about 4 hectares. The wastewater treatment station is modernized with the €24m loan provided by the EBRD and EIB and a grant of €11 million offered by the EU.
A number of 150,000 cubic meters of wastewater are daily treated at the wastewater treatment station and are then discharged into the Byk.
